CSI case 24: Alana, a sus 7

Le pregunté a Alana, mi bella hija mayor, de 13 años, qué recordaba de sus 7 añitos y que eligiera la foto que más le gusta de esa época.

I asked Alana, my eldest daughter, now 13, what is it that she remembers from the time she was 7, and asked her to pick a photo she really liked from when she was that age.

Eligió una que se había sacado en una sesión de fotos de Adrián Venturini, renombrado fotógrafo esperancino y concuñado, previo a nuestra mudanza a Patagonia, y lo que más recuerda de esa época es que le gustaban mucho los fideos, era casi la única comida que comía con gusto!, a su gran amiga Guille y sus interesantísimas charlas, el CD de “Los chicos quieren Rock” que bailaba y cantaba todo el tiempo, que su nro preferido era el 7, precisamente, y su color, el turquesa.

She picked a photo that was taken during a photo shoot we arranged before moving to Patagonia with the talented photographer (and brother-in-law´s brother) Adrian Venturini. She says that what she remembers most of that age is that she liked noodles too much, was actually almost the only food she enjoyed eating!, her great friend Guille and their very interesting conversations, the CD “kids only want rock” that they used to dance and sing all the time, that her favorite number was precisely 7 and her color, teal.

Lo que yo más recuerdo de Ali a sus 7 era su risita rara y contagiosa, sus ojos profundos, sus pasos de baile mientras se miraba al espejo, sus charlas con Guille! y que por nada del mundo se dejaba tocar las orejas o cortar las uñas de las manos y los pies!!! (entre 2 la teníamos que agarrar si queríamos lograr sostenerla y poder cortárselas sin sacarle junto un dedo o yo perder un ojo, y lo mismo para limpiarle las orejas… qué terror que le tenía! qué habrán pensado los vecinos con sus gritos! Recién varios años después (de hecho hace muy poco tiempo), la moda pudo más que sus sensibilidades en las orejas y pudo ponerse un par de aritos…

What I remember most from her at 7 was her weird and contagious giggle, her deep eyes, her dance steps while she looked at the mirror, her long conversations with Guille” and that for nothing in the world she would let anyone touch either her ears or her toes! In order to trim her nails I needed two people to grab her so I could trim them without lossing a finger or hers or an eye of mine. same deal to clean her ears… she used to really frick out, so terrified! I wonder what the neighbours thought about us at that time with all that screaming! Only several years later, actually it wasn´t until very recently, that fashion was stronger than her fears and she could start wearing earings for instance…

Eso fue lo que, palabras más, palabras menos, incluí en el relato de la página que armé con las consignas del caso 24 de CSI, y que quedó así:.

That is what, in similar words, I included in my journaling on this page that I put together in response to the CSI challenge for week 24, and that resulted in this:

But before we get to how I put this page together, let´s see a bit what this case was about…

Dentro de la evidencia había que elegir dos de los siguientes elementos: [EVIDENCE LIST]

• Joyas
• elementos plateados
• elementos brillosos
• agregar brillo
• corona
• usar gesso para blanquear papel o elementos
• pintura roja
• círculos

Yo elegí JOYAS (en el centro de las flores que enmarcan la foto principal) y elementos plateados y elementos brillosos tanto en la página de base (plateada) como en las flores que enmarcan la foto principal y las que se encuentran en el centro de las letras “a” del título.

I picked the JEWELS (in the center of the flowers that frame the main photo and journaling) and silver accents/sparky things, both in the silver page I used to build this page onto and in the silver flowers that are in that main photo/journaling frame and in the center of the letters “a” in the title.

Del testimonio había que elegir al menos uno de las siguientes consignas: [TESTIMONY LIST]

• Inspirarse por el “meme” de la reina (meme es una suerte de nueva corriente que refiere como tal a cualquier cosa que empieza de una manera y se esparce como un virus, mutando, creando nuevas versiones… es complicado de explicar... muchos posts de internet que se reeditan y publican en otros posts se consideran MEMES también).
• Agregar joyas al relato
• Escribir el testimonio en 3 círculos
• Palabras de inspiración: COOL (genial “cool”), CHARM (joya, accesorio), VISION (visión)

Yo elegí agregar “joyas” (piedritas rojas) al marco del relato que es también la foto principal.

I used JEWELS (red stones) that I added to the journaling/photo frame, as center of the flowers.

Y así fue como, teniendo en cuenta estas consignas y los colores del caso, decidí utilizar dos de las técnicas de mi cuarto seminario de todo lo que se puede hacer con tiras dobladas… en este caso IRIS FOLDING (doblado de iris) en el título “Alana” y la técnica de IRIS FOLDING invertida en el caso de la foto principal.

And that was how, bearing in mind these clues and the colors in this case, I decided to use two of the techniques I’m teaching in my 4th scrapbooking techniques seminar of everything you can do with folded stripes of paper in scrapbooking… in this case I used IRIS FOLDING in the title “Alana” and INVERTED IRIS FOLDED in the main photo which I also used as journaling spot.

El iris folding invertido requiere muchas copias de la misma imagen (en mi caso me llevó 11 copias de la foto impresas en papel común de impresora, ya que se complicaría mucho esta técnica con papeles más gruesos).

Inverted iris folding requires several copies of the same image (in my case I needed 11 copies of my photo, printed on copy paper as it would be too dificult to do with thicker, better quality photo paper).

Se debe marcar 4 puntos en cada copia de manera tal que al cortarlas en “x”, doblarlas y superponerlas se vaya formando el mismo efecto de cierre en espiral que se da en el Iris folding tradicional, pero sin alterar en lo más mínimo la imagen de la foto.

You have to trace 4 points on each copy in a way that when cutting, folding and overlapping them you get the same effect that you get with the traditional iris folding technique, but the photo stays perfectly unchanged.

Pero antes de pegarlas copias entre sí, resalté muy suavemente los bordes con tiza metalizada color rosado, para integrar la foto aún más a la paleta del caso.

But before I pasted all the layers together, I highlighted a little bit the borders of each folded layer with metallic soft pink chalk, to match the colors better to the required palette.

El marco de esta foto lo hice con una cartulina plateada que calé al tamaño de la foto (A4), con un fino marco rojo calado por detrás que se alcanza a ver entre este marco plateado y la foto. A la parte inferior del marco plateado también le calé las letras para el título:

I used a silver piece of scrapbook paper as photo frame. I trimmed a window off the size of the photo, pasted a piece of red cardstock below and trimmed that window off again so that only a little border of the red will show between the photo and the silver frame. I cut off the letters of the title from the bottom part of the silver frame:

Las letras me quedarán para algún otro LO

I will certainly use the resulting letters in a future LO

Tomé uno de los papeles de los “coordinates” de CSI diseñados para el caso y recorté el papel de “puntillas” que pegué todo alrededor del marco. Al final del trabajo, decoré las puntillas con pintura de relieve rosada, que las benefició bastante.

I printed the lacy paper from coordinates and used it as border of my frame. When I finished putting all the page together I decorated it with dimensional pink paint which I really liked as it makes it pop a lot more.

En el título usé la técnica de IRIS FOLDING tradicional, en el que se sigue un patrón y se adhiera por detrás las tiras dobladas en determinado orden de manera tal que al dar vuelta, en el frente queda un efecto de “iris” que se va cerrando como el diafragma en una cámara de fotos.

I used iris folding for my title, where you paste stripes of folded paper to the back of a window following a pattern in a way that, when you turn your finished piece over, you can see the folded stripes of paper closing as an iris.

Decoré el centro de ambas “a” con una flor metalizada plateada.

I decorated both “a” with a silver shiny flower.

El relato lo escribí en cada una de las tiras que componen la foto principal y cuenta lo que describí en mis primeras líneas de este post, los recuerdos que tenemos tanto Ali como yo de sus 7 años.

I wrote my journaling on the photo itself, following the lines of the inverted iris folding pattern. It tells pretty much what I wrote at the beginning of this post, the memories that both, Ali and I, have of her when she was 7 yerars old.

Lo que Ali recuerda está escrito desde la parte superior izquierda y baja hasta la parte inferior derecha.

Ali´s memories start at the top left corner of the photo and continue to the bottom right.

 

Lo que yo recuerdo de ella comienza en la parte superior derecha y termina en la parte inferior izquierda…

My memories start at the right top corner and go all the way to he bottom left…

 

Como ya lo mencioné antes, terminé mi LO decorando los extremos de mi foto principal y marco del relato con flores 3D plateadas a las que agregué una piedrita roja importante de centro, para así terminar de cumplir con las consignas del testimonio y del relato necesarias para el caso de CSI.

As I mentioned before, I finished my LO decorating the borders of my photo which is also my journaling spot with 3d silver flowers to which I added big red jewels as center to finish following the required clues for this specific case at CSI.

Decoré la puntilla con la pintura dimensional rosada al final de mi trabajo y con eso quedó completa mi página.

I decorated the lace with dimensional pink paint at the end of my work and with that the page was over.
