CSI case 23: ABEJAS REINA / QUEEN BEES

Once again I have finished my version of one of CSI cases a Sunday evening, moments before deadline is over…. That saying of “never leave for tomorrow… “ it seems not to be working for me Sonrisa

Let´s see what this case was about:

Futaleufú-20120617-05073

I was inspired by the technique I taught yesterday in the scrapbooking techniques seminars I´m teaching at Rincón del Arte. This one in particular was about different things you can do with folded stripes of paper… LOUVERS in this case, that allow me to stick photos, notes and embellishments without having to paste them to th,e LO. You can simply stuck them between the paper folds. The best part: If you get tired of any given disposition of the elements you can just change them around as many times as you want in the same page.

But let´s see what the case was about:

I LOVED THE COLOR COMBINATION THIS WEEK!!! Une of the best for me so far Sonrisa

Los elementos de la EVIDENCIA eran: [LIST OF EVIDENCE ELEMENTS]

  • Flores
  • Nubes
  • Abejas
  • Corona
  • Monograma
  • Tiras/Rayas

  • Texto Aliterativo
  • “Q is por…” (o cualquier otra letra)

Del testimonio utilicé: “F” is for…

From the evidence I used: flowers, bees, stripes (louvers) and the border punch. From the testimony I used: “F is for… FRIENDS FOREVER” and I decorated that part of the journaling with a border punch.

Veamos un poquito cómo lo armé.

Let me show you a bit of the process.

I first decided what papers I was going to use and what for based on the case´s palette.

Futaleufú-20120617-05005

Preparé las tiras para armar los LOUVERS. Corté “a ojo” tiras de unos 2 a 2,5 cm de ancho.

I prepared before hand the stripes of paper for the LOUVERS. I cut stripes of about an inch wide (more or less, no need to be precise).

Futaleufú-20120617-05006

I then folded on of the borders in to leave them ready to be pasted in the frame, once the frame was ready.

Futaleufú-20120617-05007

I started the frame with my dark green paper. I trimmed the center off leaving about 1cm to paste the second paper on top.

Futaleufú-20120617-05008

Took the second paper and cut it a bit smaller than the first. Then punched all aournd the border with this punch:

Futaleufú-20120617-05009

I inked the borders to add some drama Sonrisa (actually, just because I love these fluid chalk inkpads by Color Box and needed an excuse to use them and both the green and the dark pink in this case match very well the inks I have!)

Futaleufú-20120617-05011

Pegué este papel sobre el anterior

Pasted this onto the first paper

Futaleufú-20120617-05015

I took the third paper, pink flowers in 2 different tones, yellos and greens… how great it that! I made it smaller than the second paper and then inked the borders green.

Futaleufú-20120617-05016

Then I meassure and trimmed the center off but very precisely this time as this is going to be the actual visible top frame, so we need it to be neat…

Futaleufú-20120617-05019

Entinté el interior con la tinta rosada

I inked the inner edge of the frame with the pink ink

Futaleufú-20120617-05020

And then pasted it on top of everything else… the result:

Futaleufú-20120617-05021

But that was not it… before starting to paste the stripes to make the louvers, I added another layer to the border… I took a different border punch and punched stripes of a dark pink paper to make a sort of lace I pasted below the flower paper like this:

Futaleufú-20120617-05035

Now the frame was ready for the louvers. So I placed it like this onto my cutting mat so I could use the lines to guide me and start pasting down the folded stripes of paper I prepared at the beginning.

Futaleufú-20120617-05037

I pasted one stripe of paper at the top followed by one at the bottom, then top and bottom again untill they meet at the center with the folded part of the stripes facing to the inside of the frame. Instead of using a glue bar I used paper tape. It works better for this.

Futaleufú-20120617-05038Futaleufú-20120617-05040

Once I got to this point I pasted a wider unfolded stripe to cover the center…

Futaleufú-20120617-05041

Y al dar vuelta… ta-taaaannnn:

And when we turn it over… da-dahhh:

Futaleufú-20120617-05044

This was my naked frame… but as the concept of louvers in scrapbooking is the fact that everything you use on them is removable or replaceable, I didn´t stick or glue anything down except for the flowers I pasted on the lower right corner at the end… the rest can all be removed or replaced…

I altered a little the QUEEN BEE signed from the case coordinates (printables designed by CSI for this case) so that it would become plural because the photo I wanted to use was that of Alana and her friend Guillermina  and they are BOTH such gorgeous little queens Sonrisa

I used brads to stick it instead of glue so I can change it later on if I decide to use the frame with any other photo.

Futaleufú-20120617-05057

From the coordinates I also used the following sign and I chose letter F:

Futaleufú-20120617-05079

FRIENDS FOREVER. I also used brads to stick it so I can remove it later on if I want to.

Another sign from the coordinates is this… that I also modified:
I cut the original text off, pasted a stripe of pink paper separating the top part a bit further and used another element from the coordinates to create a new text that reads:
“I decree eternal friendship!"
I used foam tape to paste this on top of the pink paper…

Futaleufú-20120617-05046

Y quedó así:

And the result was this:

Futaleufú-20120617-05047

This piece, together with the photo, the text and other pieces can accomodate in the louvers without the need to glue them, as they hold eachother perfectly.

Futaleufú-20120617-05048

I also used pieces from the coordinates to tell my story…

The photo I used was taken at Alana´s 9th birthday, the second we spent in Trevelin after we moved a bit more than a year earlier. That summer Guillermina, her beloved friend from whom she had such a hard time separating, came with her entire family to be with Ali for her birthday. Alana´s happiness simply cannot be express in words…

This is what I wrote in my journaling for the LO:

Futaleufú-20120617-05078

14th January 2008
Alana´s 9th birthday

Guille and her family drove 2200 km in order not to miss Ali´s birthday

Futaleufú-20120617-05077

Ali and Guille are

friends since they

were born and for

both of them was

very difficult to be

apart when we

decided to move

to the south. Futaleufú-20120617-05075-001

Each summer Ali

can´t wait to go

and visit her beloved

friend and Guille

usually changes

the entire family´s

plans around it so

that they can be

together no matter what…

But going back to the frame, and to finish, I pasted some homemade flowers on the bottom right end of the page, which I made with leftover papers from this case:

First I made the little roses…

IMG-20120617-05049

Corté petalitos alargados del papel rosado oscuro…

Then I trimmed a few petals from the darker pink paper…

Futaleufú-20120617-05050

Pasted those petals around a little piece of paper tape…

Futaleufú-20120617-05054

Y fijé la rosita como tal…

And then one of the lighter pink little roses as center…

Futaleufú-20120617-05055

Then I trimmed a few leaves (I´ve taken a photo of the steps so you can see how easy it is to create nice leaves without the need of templates… sometimes it´s only about taking the corage to grab your scissors and let go! Sonrisa)

IMG-20120617-05056

La composición me quedó así:

The flower composition was done like this:

Futaleufú-20120617-05058

And one more view from the side so you can see the effect of the louvers better…

Futaleufú-20120617-05059

With the page and everything else ready, the only thing left is to accomodate each the elements in any position I want to, using the louvers to fix the elements in place and each new element that is being accomodated this way helps to fix the next. And if we ever get bored of the composition we can very easily change it any way we want to and as many times as we want.

Click on “VER PRESENTACIÓN” (photo slideshow) to see how the frame changes as I play around placing each of the elements…

Divertido, no? Sonrisa

Fun, isn´t it? Sonrisa

Well, this is all for today… I hope you enjoyed it!

Hasta el próximo post!

Till next post!
